Thanks for finding and posting this article. I wasn't a fan of DFW, just hadn't read him. But the impact of his parting and his manner of parting seems pretty broad. I do believe that the creative impulse is related to Eros, the life principle, and the sad reality of mental illness is a complication for a great artist. Maybe related to his/her motivation to create, but it sure doesn't make it easier.
Once in awhile, a soul feels broken and knows, or feels that they'll never get back to the real "me". There's been a rupture. Suicide is a kind of acknowledgment. I've seen it (too many times).
However, those are my thoughts about a person I don't know and haven't read, this article brings information about how his family feels, that's helpful for the many people who admired and followed him.
